Company profile
A brief history of VectorStarted in Rome (Italy) in 1986, Vector has been conceived to operate in the Special Purpose GIS applications market. From the very beginning the prospect Customer requests for solutions in the Radio Frequency network design have furtherly sharpened the company mission. Currently Vector operates specifically in this field, providing software tools for the design, evaluation, management and simulation of radio frequency networks.
The general public attention to the alleged radio frequency pollution problem has more recently led Vector to add specific software tools for the analysis of the radio frequency electric fields (REMFE module, known in Italy as VICREM) and the very low frequency magnetic fields generated by the distribution power lines (ELF module).
During 1990, to increase its market penetration and economical strength, Vector has become part of the CITEC financial group. Eventually a full acquisition has taken place in 1992. Currently Vector, while still an independent brand, benefits of the CITEC group structure for all the company non-technical tasks, applying the same procedures and documents as far as Quality is concerned (ISO9001 certification and compliance are active since 1997). From the technical point of view, Vector concentrates on its mission, which is the production of high quality software tools for the Radio Networking.
In 1993 the tool was migrated to Windows from the original Unix [TM] environment version, taking the basic name WinRPT (after Radio Planning Tool), which is still in use.
The current tool structure is highly modular and divided into configurable modules which cover virtually any need in the field. The base for all these modules is a general purpose GIS model (WinEDT) which accepts data in most de-facto standards and assures a full compatibility with network data for both the structure and the technological components (Antennas, Equipments, etc.). The Oracle database is used to this purpose.
The main module classes currently include:
- WinRPT (Radio Planning Tool) for the Point-to-Point networks;
- WinWLL (Wireless Local Loop) for the Point-to-MultipointPoint networks;
- D-CAE (Dynamic Coverage Area Evaluator) for the Broadband Wireless Access networks;
- AND (Access Network Dimensioning) for the Broadband Wireless Access networks;
- WinBDC (BroaDCast) for the Radio and television Broadcasting;
- WinERT (Electric Ray Tracing) for the in-house and local coverage applications (Wi-Fi, DECT, etc.);
- WinEDT (Environmental Data Tool) for the GIS and general purpose model environment;
- VICREM (alias REMFE, Radio Electro-Magnetic Field Evaluator) for the environmental impact;
- WinELF (Extremely Low Frequency) for the electric distribution lines magnetic field analysis;
The Italian Communication Agency (Ministero per le Comunicazioni) has selected the Vector software to monitor the radio communication Operator Networks and to provide a common basis for the emerging Italian Radio Electric Cadaster.
Having virtually saturated the domestic market, Vector has been actively planning its expansion in the international arena since 2005.
The continuous Customer real-time Support, which has been a key to the domestic success of Vector, has been immediately extended to the foreign Customers with the same well proven mechanism (a customized Internet access to private site areas with a 24x7 operation).
In the meanwhile, conventions and agreements are being established with other Italian and European companies which operate in parallel markets (like Antenna and Equipment providers, Network Security operators, etc.) to furtherly enforce and broaden the offer for effective design and management integrated solutions for the Radio market.
As a side activity, Vector has gained a firm reputation as a GIS data provider (mainly DEM’s) which are of paramount importance for the radio electric model environment generation.
Due to its specificity, in the last four years Vector has been provided with a specialized commercial and marketing structure, which is independent from the corresponding CITEC Group components. This assures that Customers will receive a unified and harmonic treatment from the very beginning, as the technical and commercial people work in tight cooperating conditions.
